With a few friends I recently started a Book Group to read
non-fiction books and meet once a month on a Friday evening. On the agenda so far (but not necessarily read by all!): -
- This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs the Climate by Naomi Klein
- Green House’s ‘Post-growth’ project: a critical twenty-first-century assessment of the hegemonic economic policy of our time by Rupert Read and others
- Peace News pamphlet, On Common Ground: an open letter from the radical peace movement to the radical climate change movement (13 pages plus notes)
- Marx’s Wages Price and Profit (not to be confused with Value Price and Profit)
We might think about sometimes operating on the way some other book group work, which is by sharing books, reading them sequentially, and then discussing when everyone has read them.
For the future: -
For the future: -
- Honorable Friends: Parliament and the Fight for Change by Caroline Lucas MP
- If we decide not to buy books for each of us maybe we could just rely on internet resources like YouTube, eg Positive Money's 4 minute video (the one that starts with Natalie Bennett and is on the front page at www.positivemoney.org)
- How Nonviolent Struggle Works by Gene Sharp: the 168-page "short" version is a free download and the Preface is shown below
